The junior minion at her first swim meet of the summer season. I kind of love the community pool swim meets they have around here. K-12 are all on the same team and it is fun to see them interact. The minion is 3rd grade so there are many more years to go

I’m at my neighborhood meet now. It is, as always, a hellscape of boredom and discomfort.

Oh, I’m not saying it’s not. Plus, we had a rain delay, so added boredom, but the kids like it. I’ve gotten smart so I now bring a backup battery and a good insulated cup. Our pool does a great job with the concessions to with lots of good options. That helps.

Had a meet today too. Got 3rd and 1st graders. The good news is while they practice in our neighborhood pool 20 yards from the lap pool we have this. It’s alarge neighborhood. 130 kids on the team.. that poor coach:)

Much fun in your future. We started out in the Dallas Aquatics summer league in 3rd grade, where I was pressed into coaching. That alleviated any boredom, if not the heat exhaustion.
Then, we joined a club team when the school team was disbanded. Now, she goes to meets once roughly a month and has her times recorded in the USA Swimming database. I’m a registered official. We have a meet this weekend across town, have to be there by 7:30 am both days.
The AAC conference championships were held at nearby SMU this Spring, and she and I volunteered to be timers so we were on the pool deck in the middle of the college action. It was a big eye opener for her and just cemented that much more her desire to swim in college some day, she hopes with a scholarship.
It’s so cool watching them doing something active that they can be proud of and make friends doing.

Your neighborhood pool has a waterslide? Why aren’t you going on it everyday?

Oh trust me I do every chance I get. I’m not a total fat ass but when I come down I launch with force so much that water spills over the sides at the corners often landing on dry parents watching their kids like the guy in the photo and the splash at the end has been known to scare/nearly drown the unexpecting:)

That is pretty impressive. Good luck to her!
